Competition Season for Jewish Children’s Literature

The Association of Jewish Libraries Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award

Now is the time to get in gear to prepare your manuscript for the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award. Established by Sydney’s husband, Ralph, and first awarded in 1985, this competition has inspired many aspiring authors to send in their very best work.

Who is eligible: An unpublished author, Jewish or non-Jewish

What: A work of fiction in English with universal appeal of Jewish content that reveals positive aspects of Jewish life, for readers aged 8 to 11

The award: A cash award of $1,000 for the best manuscript

2002 winner, Karen Schwabach, A Pickpocket's Tale, published by Random House, 2006
