Mid-Week Field Notes | June 9, 2021

Some quick things:

  1. I completed revisions on my Ethel Rosenberg bio in verse. I hope my editor agrees that I completed them!
  2. I gave a presentation on Yizkor books (Holocaust memorial books) to my graduate “Reading Yiddish for Holocaust Research” instructor and classmates. I’m presenting on Yizkor books as a generative space where historical and narrative truths coexist to the Memory Studies Association in July.
  3. I attended “The Writers Bridge” for the first time, hosted by Allison K. Williams and Ashleigh Renard. It meets biweekly for free, tackles mostly marketing issues, and connects you with other writers in small breakout rooms on Zoom. Does anyone have a template for a book marketing plan?
  4. I’ve been writing a lot–by longhand. Now I have the daunting task of typing up my raw material: a new short story, poems for my new historical YA novel in verse, and essays about my immigrant forebears.

    • Hi, Joni!
Yes, it’s true – I’m no longer agenting. I need and want to focus on my new position as director of a Holocaust, Genocide & Human Rights Center, my doctoral dissertation about Holocaust children’s lit, and of course, writing (about Displaced Persons who are newcomers to postwar America, including an orphaned teen who’d been hidden in Belgium) and promoting my own work. I’m also excited about 37 Days!
