#52snapshots–Week 49-50

I’m exploring sibling relationships in some new poetry writing. I came across this interview with poet Emma Hines in Ploughshares. But I also began to write a new piece about my father’s grocery store and what that meant to me. I have newspaper ads from the local papers when the store opened in 1953 and some glossy 8 x 10 photos my father kept in his desk. I imagine these were taken by a newspaper photographer.

I may have to change summer travel plans given the situation of Russian troops lining up on Ukrainian borders. One memoir writer advised I travel to Poland and slip over the border. Or, as I reason, I could revert to a piece I drafted a couple of years ago in which I imagined my trip to my grandmother’s former Austro-Hungarian shtetl.
