This week’s prompt requires writing about someone who didn’t fit in. Frankly, that could be anyone and everyone. I chose to write about a high school classmate who definitely marched to the beat of her own drummer. She was not aware that her dance moves ignored the rhythm of the music or that the circle that formed around her at the freshman dance was not for encouragement. She didn’t know she was different and that most of the kids in town had families that had lived here for generations. She was a relative newcomer, an Iberian immigrant who didn’t look or sound like British Isles descendants.
But back then, in our teenage years, weren’t we all outsiders? Weren’t we all trying to figure out our own identities? Trying to find our communities, our peeps?
Who will you write about this week?
